This foundational dance class is designed for anyone who wants to move with confidence, clarity, and joy—no prior dance experience required.
Structured as an 8-week series offered four times per year, The Foundational Dance class focuses on teaching essential hand, arm, and foot positions that are historically rooted in classical ballet, widely recognized as the technical foundation—or “mother language”—of many dance forms. These fundamental positions serve as a shared structural framework across diverse movement traditions, including classical and miniature folk dances, Persian folk dance, Spanish and flamenco styles, ballroom dances, and numerous other cultural and theatrical dance forms.
Particular emphasis is placed on understanding how the body occupies and moves through space, three different plane of movement including directional awareness, spatial design, and stage orientation, in order to communicate clearly and effectively within a performance setting. The class also emphasizes correct and efficient weight transfer between positions. Students learn how to shift body weight with control and intention, ensuring balance, continuity, and visual harmony. This technical clarity not only supports physical ease and injury prevention but also enhances the aesthetic quality of movement, allowing transitions to appear fluid and visually engaging for an audience.
By developing these core principles, students build a strong technical and expressive foundation that supports further study in any dance style, while cultivating body awareness, coordination, and performance readiness.
Dance Group Lessons (8-Week Series for Winter 2026)
Our next term starts February 3 and runs for 8 sessions on Tuesdays at 7:00 PM.
Registration is required for the full 8-week series. At the time of online registration, students pay the first session fee (plus GST and processing fees) to secure their spot.
Tuition: $224 + GST for all 8 sessions
